Welfare as We Should Know It: Not For People With Less Than $10 Billon At Risk.

Now suppose that the government steps in with "major financial actors" to ensure through its monopoly powers and, in general, relaxation of the monopoly laws, that there are no temporary plunges in cattle prices, in effect "stabilizing" the market. This hugely increases the value of my bet on cattle futures. |
Arguably this bailout is still in the general public interest, since stable financial markets (assuming that the assets are actually stabilized near their long-term price) are desirable, but it is a subsidy to the banks for which the public may want to be compensated. After all, if people can get so bent out of shape about a $500 a month TANF check to mothers getting welfare, how would they feel about subsidies worth tens of billions of dollars to the richest people in the country? But, the media has to first inform the public about this act of charity to the wealthy.

How can it be a bailout by the government if there was no injection of liquidity (ie funds provided) by the government?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bail_out_(finance)
"Bail out in economics and finance is a term used to describe a situation where a bankrupt or nearly bankrupt entity, such as a corporation or a bank, is given a fresh injection of liquidity, in order to meet its short term obligations. "
I think the title "Welfare For The Rich" is misleading because the government is not giving any money to the rich... it seems all the government is doing is telling the rich to play nice with each other.

Man, have they ever got you conned! Since when is it legal to set/support the price of any commodity by self-dealing among a small group of interested insiders? That's why we have laws against monopoly. People are serving time for what the Fed and the Humungous Banks and Brokers (HBBs) propose to do! Price fixing is illegal (unless you are a banker).
